This kitchen is truly the heart of this newly renovated bungalow in the West End of Ottawa. The client wishlist was large and the square footage was small, but with some innovative planning, the final result includes everything they wanted! The renovation included creating an open-concept main living area, which means the kitchen is open to the living room and dining room. The fresh, functional layout is built around the oversized island and divided into activity zones. An important consideration was the inclusion of a strategically hidden laundry shoot leading straight down to the basement. New, high-efficiency appliances include the built-in coffee maker and wall oven, the built-in cooling drawer and the large gas range with integrated range hood.
The paneled refrigerator and dishwasher allow for a clean and elegant look, integrating the appliance into the cabinetry. Stylistically, this kitchen was designed to feel inviting, comfortable and contemporary, but remains rooted with timeless, classic, and traditional elements. This is not just another white kitchen - the colour palette is made up of creamy whites and greys, warm wood tones, and an intentional blend of metals. Artisanal clay tiles clad the backsplash area, adding an artful and European inspired facet to the design. The quartz countertop creates interest and movement with its striking, fluid veining. The plumbing fixtures include a practical pot filler above the range, beautiful bridge faucets and an impactful farmhouse sink which was placed in front of the window to allow a view while doing the handwashing. The faucets, hardware and lighting fixtures are the jewelry of this kitchen, and combined with the geometric stools they create what we have deemed comfortable elegance.
